Collager? I hardly know her.
This year (2026), I resolved to start making collages. A lot of my creative pursuits are very cerebral (writing, media review, tabletop gaming) and I found myself craving a kinetic hobby, something tactile and meditative, with an end result that is both visual and something I can hold in my hands. I am very, very green in terms of my experience with collage as a creative medium. On this site, I'll present my exploration of a brand new (to me) hobby.
I don't know much about collage, let alone how to do it well... or make a website about it ☺
So, what
is collage?
Collage is an art medium involving the combination of existing media into something new. Its name comes from the French word "coller" meaning "to glue," which is a simple name for a simple thing. The barrier to entry for collage, truly, is a gluestick.
Why collage? among other interrogations of my impulses
Even before I knew much about it, collage seemed accessible. I don't draw, nor do I paint, so the idea of collage represented to me a visual medium in which I could actually participate. It seemed meditative, and a good exercise in appreciating and synthesizing detail.
Where collage?
The Amazon algorithm fed me the charming little circus print sketchbook shown here. It tickled my creativity, and I got started.
